Is it permissible to castrate/mute cats for thier health benefits such as avoiding kidney infection?
الجواب وباللہ التوفیق
Yes, it is permissible to castrate cats if it is for health-related benefits, such as preventing kidney infections.
It is mentioned in Fatawa al-Hindiyya, one of the most authoritative works in Hanafi fiqh and widely relied upon by Hanafi scholars:
If there is a clear benefit or prevention of harm in castrating a cat, there is nothing wrong with it, [5.357]
It is also mentioned in Fatwa Rahimiyyah that there is no harm in castrating an animal.
Furthermore, the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) sacrificed castrated animals, as mentioned in the hadith:
Narrated Hazrat Jabir ibn Abdullah (RA): The Prophet (ﷺ) sacrificed two horned rams which were white with black markings and had been castrated.
(Sunan Abu Dawood, Hadith No. 2795)
And Allah knows best
